The perfect escape for a weekend in the wild with family or friends! This two-bedroom cottage sleeps four adults (and can sleep 2 small kids as well) and has everything you need for a proper escape – a wood-fired hot tub, plunge pool, mountain views, pizza oven, braai area, fire pit, cargo nets and a cosy fireplace. Plus, it’s pet friendly!
With 38 species of game and no predators, you can explore the reserve on foot or by mountain bike. Every stay also includes a complimentary game drive, where you could spot giraffe, zebra, sable, fallow deer and more.
What We Loved
Waking up to springbok and other game wandering past the cottage was pretty special, and we loved keeping an eye out for whatever might wander through next (definitely bring those binoculars!).
The cargo nets running along the length of the cottage were a definite highlight and was the perfect spot to lie back with a sundowner in hand. We also loved spending time between the plunge pool and wood-fired hot tub, before firing up the pizza oven. But it was all the little touches that really made our stay extra special… and that home-baked bread is the BEST!
The Space
Kitchen
There’s a fully equipped kitchen with an oven, fridge-freezer, microwave, dishwasher and bean-to-cup coffee machine. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked bread (which tastes as good as it smells!), as well as a fresh fruit bowl. Coffee, tea, sugar, milk, biscuits, olive oil, vinegar and salt & pepper are also provided. Don’t forget to pack your own pizza ingredients to take advantage of the pizza oven or order a pizza box.
Living
The open plan living space seamlessly moves from the kitchen to a modernly furnished living room with a comfy couch, and a beautiful fireplace. There is a TV in case you feel like watching a movie in the evening and there is also a handy Bluetooth speaker if you are wanting to play some tunes.
Outdoors
The outdoors are where this cottage shines and where you’ll want to spend most of your time! Fire up the built-in braai and pizza oven and settle in for long, lazy evenings cooking and catching up with family or friends. During the day, cool off in the plunge pool, soak in the wood-fired hot tub or stretch out on the cargo nets while keeping an eye out for game wandering past.
Bedrooms
Both rooms open onto personal viewing decks and are equipped with electric blankets for those chilly winter evenings and aircons for the warm summer ones. You can choose between a King sized bed for both rooms or separate them into two single beds for friends or children. Small touches like gowns and slippers are provided, and you’ll find a cute bedtime story and chocolate next to your bed.
Bathrooms
Both bedrooms have their own en-suite bathrooms, each with a shower, while the main bedroom also features a luxurious freestanding bath. You’ll also find luxury Healing Earth amenities in both bathrooms.
Amenities
Our Top Tips
- Pack your hiking shoes, mountain bike and binoculars as there is 2300 hectares of property to explore and 38 species of wildlife. You can also hire e-bikes which is so much fun!
- There is a two night minimum stay so make sure to book your leave in for a stress-free getaway (the wifi can be a little slow at times if you’re working remotely)
- The cottage is a great option for a family getaway as it can sleep up to 6 guests (4 adults and 2 children)
- You’ll want to grab your groceries beforehand, as once you arrive, you won’t want to leave (Peregrine Farm Stall is a good option for some fresh produce, homemade quiches and pies)
- Semi-catering, pizza baskets, snack platters etc can be arranged with prior notice. We recommend ordering the pizza basket
- Melozhori is situated on the Robertson Wine Valley Route. If you do decide to venture out then make sure to stop off at Springfield Wine Estate, their Life From Stone wine is our all time favourite!
