If you’re looking to properly switch off, Kaya is hard to beat! Set in the heart of the Riviersonderend Nature Reserve, this eco pod is surrounded by mountains, proteas, and complete tranquillity. Spend your days relaxing by the pool or hot tub, hiking to the reserve’s waterfall, cooling off in the rock pools, or simply soaking up the views from bed with a coffee in hand. It’s the kind of place that slows your heartbeat within an hour of arriving, and sends you home lighter than you came.
What we loved
The 360-degree mountain and protea views here are on another level, with windows that pull it all in from every angle. It’s the kind of view you could stare at for hours, especially the one straight out front. It felt surreal spotting leopard tracks while exploring the farm and the waterfall hike is absolutely incredible, would highly recommend! Between the splash pool, the hot tub, the dreamy outdoor bath, and all the thoughtful little touches, Kaya nails that balance of luxury and simplicity that we just can’t get enough of.
The Space

The modern kitchenette is fully equipped with a gas stove, whistling kettle, toaster, medium fridge/freezer, and air fryer. There’s also a large Field Bar to keep your drinks perfectly chilled. There is a separate coffee station which includes a Nespresso machine with a milk frother, coffee pods, filter coffee, tea, sugar, and rusks. Olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper are also provided.
Living/Dining
There’s a comfy L-shaped bench seat, perfect for curling up with a book or winding down on chilly evenings. The indoor dining/work area sits beside a large window framing sweeping mountain and protea views so you’re always connected to the landscape outside. You’ll also find a few board games and a Bluetooth speaker to keep things relaxed and easy throughout your stay.
Outdoors
There are plenty of spots to unwind and soak up the views. The deck features an outdoor dining area with a gas braai, wood-fired hot tub and a splash pool with a lounging area in between. Steps lead to a boma area where you can also braai and a winding path takes you to the field bath and outdoor shower. There is also a sand pit where you can enjoy a game of boule.
Bedroom
There is an extra length, king-sized bed with luxurious linen and extra blankets for winter. The bedroom looks out onto the deck with sweeping mountain views, and the large side window makes you feel like you’re sleeping in the proteas. There is also an aircon and a ceiling fan for summer and a fireplace to keep things warm in winter.

The indoor bathroom comes with large windows all around so it feels like you’re right in the protea bushes. It features a spacious shower and there are also cupboards for storage, along with robes to enjoy during your stay. Eco-friendly bath amenities are also provided. Our Top Tips
- Pack your binoculars, hiking shoes or mountain bikes as you’ll want to explore the farm. We did the Mountain Rock Pool hike which leads to multiple waterfalls and rock pools. It’s about a 45-minute hike and is mostly flat until you reach the river, where you’ll need to do a bit of rock scrambling (nothing too hectic), would highly recommend it!
- Keep an eye out for leopard tracks – we spotted some not too far from the cabin
- You’ll want to grab your groceries beforehand, as once you arrive, you won’t want to leave and there aren’t any restaurants or shops nearby. We’d recommend stopping off in Worcester for supplies and also filling up with petrol
