A magical forest stay for four! Picture yourself surrounded by birds chirping, crisp mountain air, and the soothing sounds of a nearby stream—feeling relaxed already?
Tucked away in an indigenous forest at the foot of the breathtaking Outeniqua Mountains, this completely off-grid retreat strikes the perfect balance between seclusion and convenience, with the town of George just a short drive away. With a wood-fired hot tub, plenty of entertainment areas and ample space, it’s the ultimate family or group getaway!
What we loved
We loved that Boshuis (Forest House) truly lives up to its name! Surrounded by trees and birds, it felt incredibly peaceful and the perfect spot to reconnect with nature. The cabin is also thoroughly equipped and the farm fresh eggs and rusks went down a treat! Most of our time was spent outdoors enjoying the fire pit, hot tub, pizza oven and outdoor shower. We highly recommend doing the waterfall hike – it’s an easy hike that leads to a beautiful waterfall and freshwater pool.
The space
Kitchen
There’s a fully equipped kitchen with a gas hob, microwave, two fridge-freezers (perfect if you’re two couples), whistling kettle and toaster. Ground coffee, tea, sugar, olive oil and salt & pepper are provided as well as farm fresh eggs, a bottle of homemade piquante peppers and rusks. There is also a washing machine, iron and ironing board if you need to do some laundry.
Living/Dining
There are multiple living spaces to enjoy – there is a cozy lounge with two double couches by the fireplace, alongside a dining area for shared meals. The enclosed patio provides an additional living and dining space, complete with forest views and an indoor braai, so you can braai comfortably all year round. Board games and books are also provided.
Outdoors
Outside there is a large seating area with a fire pit and a pizza oven so don’t forget to pack your pizza ingredients. There is also a big wood-fired hot tub – perfect for four people!
Bedrooms
The two bedrooms are located on opposite sides of the cabin and are mirror images of each other. Each room comes with a king-sized, extra length bed and a clothing rail for storage. Hot water bottles and extra blankets are provided for winter.
Bathrooms
Both bedrooms are ensuite and the bathrooms a mirror image of each other. Each bathroom features a shower and bath with a view! You can open the doors fully and enjoy your bath more in nature. Bath amenities and bath salts are provided, as well as robes. There’s also a separate guest loo located next to the kitchen.
Amenities
Our Top Tips
- Don’t forget your hiking shoes, mountain bikes and swimming costumes. There is a beautiful hike that leads to a waterfall and freshwater pool. There is also a dam and a canoe you can use during your stay
- Book your leave in for a stress-free getaway as there is limited wifi and cell phone signal
- Don’t forget to bring your pizza ingredients as you’ll want to make use of the pizza oven
